Welcome bro. If you want to know about the trans metric 200. If its a 3speed its probably a 200c. Although I wouldnt think that came in elky but who knows who did what over the years. If it is a 200c and your going to beat on it, it may not last very long.

thanks for the add to your website, have a 79 Elky I'm doin up new interior ,chromed up the motor new 350,cam ,manifold edelbrock carb, now I may need to fix up the trans,it a metric 200 ?? Don't know much about them !

Welcome to the forum. You've found the best site on the internet for g body information. If you've got the 3 speed 200 metric you might as well start looking for a replacement transmission. They are notorious for being weak. You can bolt a TH350 in its place. It's a direct swap. You'll just have to find a place on your intake to get a vacuum signal for the modulator. If you'd rather have overdrive a 200-4R is a good transmission that can be made to handle a lot of power. Of course you could go with a 4L60E but you'll have to have a computer to control the transmission.

Post a few pics of your El Camino, we'd love to see them.

It looks like the 350 but it has metric stamped in it and if I remember 11 pan bolts ,but thank you !

If it has no vacuum, says metric but looks like a th350 its probably like 99% a 200c. There ok behind a v6 or even a stock v8 just as a driver but if you put any pressure on them they dont hold.

Most likely it's the 200 Metric which were commonly used in these cars. I wouldn't invest any money in it....they were literally boat anchors.
Mine failed shortly after buying my car. It was replaced with a TH350.

Thanks guys ,can't afford to replace now !but I am having trouble shifting,if you drive it normal it shifts fine ,but when you push it ,it shifts hard and about 45 mph,I did notice the passing link on the carb was always in the middle of the slot,(opening at both ends)now it's all the way aft, towards the firewall ( opening at rear ) ??

Welcome from Indiana,fellow ElCo brotha...
