Just checked my coolant and noticed black specs floating in my radiator. Engine is not overheating and I'm running water wetter with a 50/50 mix of prestone. I hope I dont have a blown head gasket!

I had this same "problem" after my last engine swap. I just ran it like that and the last time I checked it, it appeared to be all gone. I have no idea what causes it but I have been told that mixing types of antifreeze whether its pouring one into the other or just using a different brand after a flush or engine swap can do this to the coolant.

Did you rebuild the engine, or did a machine shop build it? Possible that its junk from getting the block hot tanked.

I read a couple forums and some people had an issue with water wetter.

I bought the engine new its a zz4 crate. I did a frame off and the engine sat for 18 months. Engine has around 5k on it.

I bought a combustion leak tester today. Going to check it out tommorow night to put my mind at ease. I hope the head gaskets are not leaking but if they are oh we'll what do you do!

it's the water wetter that is causing it or the water you used, I use distilled water with water wetter. I wouldn't be worried about it and if I've never seen a head gasket problem giving you black specks in the coolant. Those ZZ4 engines are well built and if you look them up you won't find any problems with them. If you want to drain the system to refill remove the 2 drain plugs on each side of the block plus the rad.

Well the combustion test went good no blown head gaskets. Going to flush the system and mix the prestone with distilled water like you said. I have a well and I have very hard water. Thanks for your help man!

You're supposed to put nothing but distilled water in your coolant system otherwise minerals start to build up and corrode things, especially if you put water wetter in there...
