Like so many G-body cars, mine was built with its (3spd automatic) shifter on the steering column. Now that I've swapped in a 454 and a 4L80E transmission, I can no longer use that shifter; I need to install one that will work with this trans.

To that end, a couple months ago I went junkyarding and grabbed the entire floor console + shifter from an early GM10 Grand Prix sedan. I chose this shifter because it has four detents (one for each gear) that I need, plus it is the vintage Pontiac t-handle which is twisted toward the driver. I have always loved the feel of that shift handle.

Anyway, today I began the shifter installation process. I took some careful measurements and did a number of "test fits" to make sure I picked a position that feels natural when I'm behind the wheel. I cut an appropriate hole in the carpet, then I removed both front seats so I could pull the entire front half of the carpet back so I could route the shifter cable like the factory did. I figured there would be some sort of plug in the trans tunnel, indicating where the factory routed the cable on the cars that got an OEM floor console... but, nothing.

For you floor shift guys, where/how does the cable route from the shifter to the transmission?

No prob. If trans is in place be super careful as it'll be superclose

you will still need to tie in to the column shifter to retain the park/neutral switch, reverse lights, ect..
