oil pan gasket

Im not 100% sure....but it all depends on the distance between the pan and the crossmember. If theres little room, such as the case with worn out motor mounts, the pan will drop, but will not clear the crankshaft. Therefore, you may have to take out one or both of the motormount bolts to allow you to be able to lift the engine high enough to clear the crossmember. Good luck...and be careful...use a hoist from above to lift the motor, dont use a jack on the harmonic balancer, or you will probably break it!

what i did for my sbc was replace the gasket with a 1 piece from mr. gasket and then stretched it over the dropped pan. i dunno about the 3.8 weather the timing chain cover is on the other side of the front of the gasket, but if it i youll have to take it out untill after the oil pan gasket is in and then replace the timing cover gasket after. i tryed to get away with not doing that to having an oil leak and having to do it any way.

I just did one on a 305 and I had the dissy removed the transmission dipstick removed and the wiring disconnected from the transmission bellhousing bolt and then pulled it to the intake side

its not that hard to do but I did jack on the harmonic balancer no harm done and jacked on it several times buy the engine hoist sounds like a good Idea but if you are that far why not just pull the motor while you are at it

have you replaced the timing cover and oil pump on the 3.8 yet because you would get a nice gasket seal if you did them both at the same time. replacing the timing chain and the tensioner would be a good idea also
