first is the fact that the older i get (i'm 72) the more i like to talk to everybody. wife has to drag me away sometimes. my first organized drag race which i raced in had a flagman. the next year was what they called a christmas tree. i liked the flagman better. later that decade i went to the 68 us nationals at indy in Sept.and i think we just called it the nationals. my good friend ran in E stock with his 57 fuel injection chevy and won. i'll never forget that. i was lucky enough to be involved in a lot of the race day prep. those guys were on the ball and very sharp. he still has that car sitting in his garage right now just the way it sat on the starting line then. i also remember the first years of modified production and those c and d modified small block chevys cranking to the moon. i was just a dumb *ss little kid at that time but was very lucky to have been there at that time. i used to run my B stock 62 impala 409 at that time. i think i'll cut this a little short for now but would like to talk to some of you older guys about the old drag racing early days. broke a lot of trans. and rears in the early days. Denny

Greetings Denny & all; Fun story. I'm still 72 & also have to agree that visiting with Car Nuts is now days is something I alway look forward to. Oh and reading the many forums & I even joined FB. And of course I'm bias as this G Car family - forum is the best place to hang out other than being face to face outside on a nice day. So post up more stories we'll read them, don't forget pictures, we like pictures. Since you forgot this time we'll forgive you & I'll post some for ya, Ole' Bob

Quite a few of us old farts on the forum. Drag racing is still an important part of my life although interest on the forum is low. I ran modified production in my 61 bubble top - Detroit, Motor City, and Tri City dragway, all gone now!!

My dad got inducted into the Michigan Auto Racing HoF last year. Now there is someone who you have to drag away from a racing conversation.

My dad ran F and G Modified production from the late 60's into the early 70's with a 292 small block in a 57 and then a 70 Chevelle station wagon. Eventually he couldn't compete with the likes of Paul Blevins in division 1 and went bracket racing with the Chevelle. We continued bracket racing until I walked away last year after 28 years of racing myself.

good hear from you Ole' Bob. have that 3310 ready for this summer. great pics of the old 55. that was my first car as a junior in high school. sorry for the crap quality of the pics. i bought that 409 right off the drag strip and the owner rubbed the lettering off and i drove it home. raced it a few times myself. it was 22 hundred as it sat there. that was a lot money way back then but i wanted it. old 57 was one of many i had under construction.

remember the bubble tops very well. worked at a chevy dealership as a senior in HS. became friends with the line mechanics. those were great chevys at a great drag strip. fantastic memories of modified production.

those two classes were so much fun to watch. a lot of the small time racers dropped off when some of the bigger sponsors began to show up. they couldn't compete. my friend stopped when some of the smaller classes showed up with several transmissions and even some spare engines.
