My 78 Cutlass Calais 260/5 speed finally arrived today. Had about 10 whole minutes to look it over and noticed 2 things I thought were weird so here's my 2 questions;

1) Car had the carb rebuilt but I assume it's the actual factory carb. Carb has an idle kick up solenoid on it BUT the car is a factory non AC car. So did some idiot add one on or is it supposed to be there?

2) Temp sensor has no wire going to it. Needless to say the temp gauge doesn't work. No loose wire to be found for it BUT there is a single green wire plugged into that idle kick up solenoid I mentioned above. I'm wondering if the green wire is actually for the temp sensor. So is a single green wire correct for the temp sensor with rally gauges?

Overall I'm pretty happy about my purchase even though I only drove it from my driveway into the garage so far! Car is super clean and all original with only 14k. Can't wait to get some Olds rally wheels and rwl tires on her!

Strange it would have the idle kick up solenoid without A/C. Maybe it is a replacement carb that just had the solenoid on it. Looks like the dark green wire is for the temp sensor. Pink and black would be for the solenoid. Awesome, let us know what mileage you get. I would say with the lighter 78, you will beat my 88 without touching anything. Agreed the rally wheels and rwl tires will really show it off.

Yes that green wire was for temp sensor. Don't know why there's an idle speed solenoid on this carb. Anybody have a pic of how the throttle return spring is set up on a non AC Olds?

My 260 is non A/C, since the 70 was but not 100 percent sure it was non A/C factory. There is no solenoid on the carb and it has a little throttle return spring bracket on the carb where the solenoid bolts on, probably factory.

Enlarge it and hopefully you can see it.

I have a few accessories. Still need to add one more, lighter wiring is fried, so I will add a 12 volt plug with an inline fuse. The marine deep cycle cranking batteries are nice, an extra set of top terminals.
