Olds 260

I'm putting the finishing touches on an LT1 swap at the moment. And all i can say is there is no replacement for cubic inches. the 260's got like 8 or 8.5 to 1 compression and the LT1's got 10 or 10.5 to 1. 260 rated at 110hp. and the LT1 at 300hp. with no sensors and open headers my cutlass (not just by the numbers) but feels 3 times faster. if your going to break out a wrench, get dirty and spend money your better off starting with something worth it. go with a chevy or olds 350. anything you do to one of those with be felt power wise exponentially greater than a 260 or 307 or 305.

Where would you look for an Olds 350? I have a 260 and would like to put a 350 in its place. I'd rather have something turnkey than to have to find a junkyard donor and fix it up. I'd need a new carb, exhaust, intake, etc.

If you want something running - then Craigslist is probably your answer. Unless it's still in a car that I can drive - I'd call any 2nd hand engine a "core" and assume it needs a rebuild. Pre-77 are the more desired solid web mains but for most street cars a 77-80 Olds 350 works just as well - invest in better (read earlier) heads. My block in a 78 (webbed main) and has some heavily ported '64 330 heads.
