my olds 307 is leaking fluids from every direction and the only option to figure out where every leak is coming from is to yank the engine. so if im going to take it out i might as well switch it. so would it be a good idea to get a decent olds 350 from the junkyard and put it in or have it cleaned first? also my car has a bunch of black balls and cylinders with vacuum hoses coming out of them do they have to go too? i removed the ecm off the 307. also what is a reasonable price to pay for a 350.

For a little insurance, strip the 350 down, have it sent out to get hot tanked. When i comes back, wash it with dish soap and water then rinse and spray the whole engine with wd40,put new sealant and gaskets on the engine and install. The ecm should be thrown out and all the vaccum hoses are for the ecm and computers/sensors.I would run pcv on the 350 also. The reason for the engine to be hot tanked is to remove any surface rust and corrosion and also remove the calcium buildup in the coolant jackets, not cleaning those can make the engien run hotter because the coolant isnt flowing the way it should. Also check the casting numbers on the heads, with a little cash, invest in good stock flowing heads or have the ones on the engine cleaned and ported for a little better power band. Also go over the carburetor, have it rebuild and cleaned and possibly have the base rebushed to prevent any vaccum leaks and any rough idle problems in the future.Junkyards, around here are pull-a-part services meaning you wrench and take the part off the car and only pay entrance fees and parts cost.I would say around $100-$500 for a 350 engine.Shop around, see if there's a good 350 olds v8 for sale around you, maybe put an add in the wanted section here,i've seen a good coupl 350s,403s and such for sale here for reasonable costs,(some i've seen around $150)

im in the same boat as u except my 307 is shot. i have found a decent 350....Do they just fit in the stock mounts?

an SBO is an SBO on the outside so yes they all interchange on the same mounts - yet if you yank an engine .... don't you think now is a good time to invest in new mounts?

As for finding a SBO 350... where are you?

Anchor 2328 motor mounts are about $3 apiece at RockAuto.

damn I think I paid over $20. for the pair (from Advanced) .... I really need to start looking @ RockAuto's site. I know I paid more for the "right" trans mount than I did for the GN part I wound up having to use (for some reason my engine and trans aren't back where they should be, but the turbo-Buick mount solved my issue and everything is straight - so I stopped worrying about it)
