Recently dropped a 72 olds 350 in my 86 cutlass and currently get a firm 10 mpg. I don't expect great mileage but after a drive I get a stronge smell of pure gas. It's annoying, feel like I'm just pissin out perfectly good fuel.
Granted a
I'm still using the CCC carb off my 307 until I'm able to get a nice aftermarket carb, when I plugged the wire harness into it the car just wouldn't start so I unplugged it and bam it ran so that's how I'm driving it.
I'm sure my carburator issue plays a factor but I still can't imagine why I'm smelling such a stronge scent of gas. Any help ideas or explanations would be greatly appriacted.

The more I reaserch and read I feel I should add I removed my charcoal canister and simply plugged the fuel vent line.
I've never been able to get a straight answer on weather to keep it or not. Seems people wage war on both sides.

Not sure about the carb issues your having, never kept a quadrajet on a car if I could avoid it, but you can't just plug your tank vent line, that is more than likely the gas smell your getting. I'm pretty sure the only vent for the tank these cars have is that line, so now your "fumes" are trapped in the tank. You will need to vent the tank somehow, I have seen guys hook that line to the canister and just not connect anything else to it, at least if nothing else take the plug out of it

Unplugging the computer will make the E4ME carb run in Full-Rich mode all the time.

Youll need to get the CCC system working right to lean it out via the mixture solenoid.

I am running an E4ME carb and CCC system on a Buick 350 currently. It can be done.

and I agree with the previous post about the fuel vent.

I agree with techg8 and Fox80. The tank needs the vent, without it you can start to have issues with vapor lock, hard running, also can cause the fuel to start to try to leak back out the neck or spit out. Also ensure your canister isn't full of fuel or damaged.

With the carb, as stated it's going to run full rich, which is like crutching to keep the engine running, badly but running. Just take your time, go step by step and you can get it figured out.
