Have an opportunity to buy a 66 olds 425. From what I’ve read, short lived motor so not that many parts available.

66 425 with B heads, no flex plate. $250 bucks.

What does everyone think? I would put in 85 olds 442. How much work will this be?

The crank is worth $250 alone if it's clean.

Do some searching for "drill spot". Yours is almost certainly 45* bank angle. It really doesn't matter if you plan on keeping the stock cam. I only brought it up in case you hadn't heard about it.
If it's a running core, $250 is a good price. Even if it needs a minor refresh, $250 isn't bad.

I won’t be able to physically go to pick up but will send a friend. It’s in my home state. I think for 250 is a good deal regardless of cam bank. My goal is to rebuild and slap in g body.

I bought a 67 olds 425 engine about 9 to 10 months ago. Paid 300 for mine.
I dont recall what heads mine has. As others have said, if the crank is good, it's worth 250.

What are your plans for the engine?

Flexplate can be found so don't let that scare you. I also bought my 425 with the 2 barrel intake. A member on here hooked me up with a 4 barrel intake. If you plan to keep a stock hood, you will be limited on intakes... maybe even locked into a stock intake but dont quote me on that.

If you have the budget and feel comfortable getting the 425 into your car... go for it.

One last question. What does the rest of your drivetrain look like. Adding the power from a 425 could mean exhaust, transmission, and rear end upgrades.

Good luck. Let us know if you get it.

As stated: 425 steel crank is worth 250. Just keep in mind the crank flange is 64-67 only; 68 and up flywheels and flexplates won't fit. Not the end of the world. @chadman on ROP & IG has a 45⁰ roller cam for sale; might be worth snatching up. The intake is off; you can measure it.

As said, a very good deal and better than a 455 IMHO. You can get aftermarket rods and modern pistons, Mahle has 1mm ring pack forged pistons for it. The cam is no issue, very slightly more than a 39 degree. Even with a stock 4 barrel intake, hood clearance will be tight. With the Performer, a 2" tall drop base air filter is needed. Also you will have to custom lengthen the A/C brackets to retain it.
