Olds 455 Cylinder Heads?

When I bought my 69 455-W-30 block it came with the original D heads and a second pair of C heads. I checked the numbers on all the castings, this engine ran 11.5/1 compression with the set up on it currently. It also happens to have Forged aluminum flat top pistons in it. 😀 Which head would I have the most benefit of doing a complete roller cam set up?

Sell the D heads and get Edelbrocks. If it does have that compression, the better chamber will help it from being a pinging nightmare. What do you have for E85 or race fuel in your area? You will need your trans built with a max effort build, billet foward drum etc. Even the 8.5 should be checked over. But it will be hellishly fun .

The D heads would give you the better compression ratio and flow vs the other cast iron heads for the big block. Just my opinion but the D heads have been going for anywhere between 3500 and 5000 a pair in good condition. I had a pair once that were not in mint condition and were just bare castings and I got a new chevy 12 bolt for them plus some other goodies.
