I've been working on my car and had it running in tip top shape, well that is untile today. It was trying to heat up some. To be exact it was 20 degrees. It is 96 and extremely humid were I live so that could be part of it. A lil bit about the motor is a 455 9.5 to 1 comp. I've bought a bigger high flow radiator, New water pump, thermostat and replaced all hoses within the last couple weeks. Any idea on what it could be. Kinda irritating since we got a car cruise tonight so any help would be nice.

Are you running under drive pulleys? Do you have the stock clutch & fan shroud? How about the air flaps in front of the radiator. What was the temp ? 20 = 200? 200 F isn't bad on a hot day..

Thank you for the reply foxtrot. And no I'm not running underdrive pulleys and I have the stock clutch fan and shroud. What flap are you referring to in front of the radiator?

What radiator? I have found the aluminum 3 core rads to be fair at best for cooling. What thermostat? Hopefully not the Mr Gasket high flow, I had big no flow issues. There is a rubber dam under the rad cradle and two rubber side pieces that deflect air into the rad. After I chucked the under drive pulleys and Mr Gasket high flow thermostat my 403 actually ran a decent temp. I would also replace the fan clutch with a severe duty clutch. Also find a 7 blade factory fan, if you don't have one or go with something like Dodge Stratus electric fans.

I have a summit racing aluminum 3 core and a stant 160 thermostat. I have the plastic air dam on my car but none of the flaps forthe side. Are they something I need to have and if so do you have a picture of them off your car olds307? Are the dodge stratus fans a easy swap?

I will see if I can get pics of the side flaps and Dodge Stratus fans, which fit and cool very nicely. You just need to make mounts. I have mine connected my top plate. Did it heat in traffic or the highway? I believe the Summit rad is 2 core with 1" tubes, should cool fine.

IMO.... lower temp thermostats don't help the engine run any cooler ....just makes it take longer to get hot..which isn't really any benefit....Once the engine has reached the t-stat opening degree, the coolant will flow....a higher temp t-stat will close and open more often than a lower one, thereby allowing the coolant to remain in the radiator longer, and thus cooling it down more. If this was not the case, running an engine with no t-stat would make the most sense....yet anyone who has tried that will tell you it has the exact opposite effect.

Either your rad isn't big enough or there is a coolant flow or air flow problem.
