Could i just run a direct positive and a direct ground to the fuel gauge? And then put a jumper wire in for the fuel gauge? To run from the pink wire to the back of the gauge?

You can clean the contacts with a pencil eraser (the old slot car trick). If you can get ahold of a schematic, I would check the ground to the gauge cluster. The cluster ground got me on my 02 Silverado. It was corroded really bad, and caused erratic cluster operation.

I have a chassis service manual somewhere. Gotta find that..

another slot car enthusiast. the eraser trick does work well. 8 to 9 times out of 10 with electrical its the connections for plugs or switches that go bad in general

Thats what got me into this mess. They were reading off so i pulled it apart and cleaned it. And now they still dont work.

Update. Driving home i noticed the gauges go up and down depending on rpm. Obviously the oil and volts would go lower. But the fuel gauge does it too. It'll read like a quarter then when i stop and the headlights dim out the volt gauge drops and the fuel gauge drops. Im starting to think the alternator isnt charging enough or something.

sounds like you got a short, get a multi meter and see what voltage you have when running and see if it varies a little bit when revving. if that looks ok then i think you got a short somewhere
