We are such a small market. Most are cheap or broke like me 😀. We could definitely use a stronger big block. The diesel and Nascar blocks are still out there for the small blocks.

The DX block may not be aluminum but will handle anything you can throw at it and there are still a few of them around if you look.
It's capable of a 1/4" bore and over 440 cubes and tons of meat around the mains.
I'm building one to push 442 CI and 800hp with a couple of turbos...

The Olds diesel block is a great race platform and is still a small block Olds. Expensive to build but VERY cool.

Here is a link to www.olds-diesel.com with a video that is entertaining...... http://a350diesel.tripod.com/newmain.html

Welcome back Mike!

Thanks 8)

The DX block I picked up just recently made its way out the back door from the Oldsmobile Racing Division, was a Dave Smith block with 0.842 lifter bores, NOS never used.
I picked it up straight out of Lansing, MI from a very cool guy who also had an aluminum SBO that was 90lbs.
I can now say I picked up an Olds block with my bare hands.

why doesn't any of these companies do aftermarket olds engine block?

How many guys do you know that will pony up $5000 minimum to buy a block? Very few.

Well, to sum it up, you can still buy a big block or a small block. Check ebay or an olds meet like dick miller nationals in Norwalk, truth is these blocks are still around, still available and can be bought fairly cheaply yet. The DX, which is excellent and I wish I would have never gotten rid of mine, is still available, mondello has a few for 1500 or so (just an example), aftermarket crank and piston kits are available with more coming out with better technology and pricing. We are a part of the BOP division which is also not a huge popular division like chevy or ford which limits the market for prospective buyers. There is an aftermarket block coming out, check out realoldspower.com and do some research I think WISE engineering ( I might have the name wrong) was doing the r&d on it. I'm sure someone on here has more info on it.

With mass production comes lower prices, you can buy SHP replacement SBC blocks cheaper than you can do a quality machining on an OEM block, we use Dart "Little M" blocks for all decent motors and the raised cam, roller cam bearing, billet main cap block is the best block they make and the last one I bought two years ago was $3,600 I think. But they probably sell a bunch of them every month, the place that does all my work orders them by the truck load. He probably does 125 SBC circle track/drag motors and maybe 20 Ford,Dodge,Buick,Olds, etc total. It's probably to late now for an Olds block to be tooled up now, they would have to be popular in many forms to be worth it, you don't and won't see a Olds circle track motor and that is a huge segment of sales. If it wasn't for Roush Yates flooding the circle track market a few years ago Dart would have never made a Ford block, would have had to rely on the Ford factory for blocks and that option obviously doesn't exist now for Olds

That's my point. You'll never get the demand to justify a lower cost on an Olds block so you can't compare it to anything Chevy or Ford.
