Hi Im chongo, actually he is my dog but I would like to be named Chongo too, but anyways, I picked up this elco about 2 and 1/2 moths ago with 89,000 miles (It is from here in new mexico, was used as a ranch car, and like all new mexico cars, NO RUST WHATSOEVER) My dad has helped me with a few things and also my fiance's dad has started helping me with stuff, he is more into custom cars than my pops. So far Im focusing on the front end, got an 82+ header panel that I am trying to accumulate parts for and will post pics as I go. besides that, amidst a sea of desires I really want to quickly get a ministarter installed as I ****ing hate messing with the original one and it still gives me problems all the time, enough about all that Ill keep up on my progress as I go but with bills at times it will be pretty damn slow, looking forward to following threads and such 🙂

"Open fire when you hit the shore" 79 mino"

I almost expected to see some sort of Higgins Boat tribute car.

Looks like you've got a solid car to start with, so that's good. How's the paint in person? From the pictures it looks like an interesting orange.

i had a "zarape" for years on my GP's backseat!! will be following your build thread! "Chango" used to be my nickname years ago by my high school friends! anyways it looks like a good build thread!

hahaha no, its part of the banner I have across my chest, I got this car to hold me together in my young life between struggling with money, sustaining a relationship and making it in the world on my own. An that is kinda the essence of the quote, dont let things get you down, you cant always expect your actions to get noticed for the right reasons, you cant always rely on the world being fair, you just have to open fire hard when you come into this world or it will take you out as quickly as you take your finger off the trigger.

The orange paint is pretty good but could use a nice buffing, it definately catches people's eyes real fast I dont think Ill stick with bright colors for too long tho...

And 85gp, thats awesome! the name just has a nice ring to it, a festive air most definately, and as for the zarape, classic stuff I think its just a nice roddy touch but the woman doesnt like my idea none too much....

Shaved my bedrails in alcalde, did the rest of my 87 elco frame off build in pojoaque.I'm currently building my 87mcSS in your "duke city" pm me with any of your elco "needs or want's"(I've got it ALL  )

I agree with that. My Buick played a similar role when I was in High School and just after that. It was my first car.

been a while since I was on here, and need some new photos, but all in all, the camino has been working out. Since I got this car and made this thread, I sold my girl's car (96 ford ****us) and so we have been taking turns everyday taking care of our priorities in the camino. It might take another income tax before I can really strip my baby down, once my wife has a car, but I have done a few things. I replaced all the chrome, did over 1 g's worth of maintenance, and then took the car from New Mexico to my birthplace, Kentucky. It had no problems, even tho up until the day me and my pops left, we were grappling transmission issues, installing a short notice sound system, and buffing and re-chroming the car, plus tons more. It looked great, we got about 7 offers on the car in about 3-4 states, i actually happened to connect with some northern Kentucky Elco enthusiasts in my brother's neighborhodo, which was awesome. I wish I had some pictures fromt he trip, my car made me so proud and only people on a forum such as this one can understand the bond between man and machinery when it delivers one to a place like their childhood hometown. We almost got a rental, but me and my dad literally stayed up all the way thru the dry cold nights prepping, with the help of a family trusted mechanic. Fan clutch, radio/speakers, heater core, belts, plugs and wires, transmission vacuum lines, and various radiator, engine block tubing was replaced, and I may still be foprgetting some important stuff. Carb rebuilt, retuned 5x over, various unconnected lines properly sealed, zarape donned on the seats, and a guitar, plethora of gifts, and luggage were all strategically placed into the smugglers bay. I drove most of the way, 26 hour one way trip, thru hail rain snow and ice, and the car never hydroplaned, once, which was what I was afraid of. 10 pots of coffee round trip between the both of us and we got there safe just in time to tap a keg and get merry. Im gonna try and do my part to keep up with gbodyforum as I have enjoyed following everyone on here, please do your part too 🙂

Glad your trip went well. So lucky to be doing such with your Dad. I never new so many people had feellings for these Elky's until I drove mine around. Pictures would be nice when you have time.
