So, after stewing it over for a bit, and finding nothing too helpful on the internet, I have come to you guys. Isn't it a bad idea to have a 4bbl carb with an open spacer on a 4 hole cast iron intake? Seems to be that'd just cause a myriad of problems.
You are correct that would cause distribution problems, always use spacers that work with the design of the intake and seal correctly.
I only use phenolic spacers made from laminated sheet for the insulation properties.(never aluminum spacers)
Any spacer I use is made by Jomar Perormance in Pontiac MI.
when I first installed my Cowl induction scoop it was much smaller than the one I have now.
The new one has a 4" rise which allowed for more height above the carb.
So to keep my intake in the air stream I purchased a 1" thick Phenolic open spacer
to put under the carb. The manifold is an Edlebrock EPS.
This setup works great and no issues with the way it runs.
Probably should've mentioned, this is on my 1970 T-Bird. 429, cast iron intake and 600 holley. When budget allows (I sh*t you not I have 30 cents to my name, and if I'm lucky 50 bucks on Monday). I will be purchasing a 4 hole soon. Kmart hours just aren't cutting it. Especially when they give you three days for a month.
