Re: Opinions on a daily driver

if you just want a beater with good mileage, look at vw diesels. you can usually get a mid 80's jetta in decent shape for about $700. and 42+mpg+600+mi/tank is pretty nice! they aren't the fastest cars, only 50hp w/out the turbo, but it's not all that bad. there's enough torque to drive with.

Well I scored lucky today. I found a 96' Dodge Dakota on craigslist for 2500$ and has only 45k miles. The lady I bought it from buys vehicles from government autions and then flips em on the side to make a little extra cash. The truck has a 3.9L V6, midnight blue (air force painted it), mint interior, and the engine looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. For being a 6 cylinder, this truck halls *ss! I have to get pics but I'm just glad I bought american.

I tried talking to a family friend who has an 82' nissan 280zx with twin turbos, t-tops and 6000 origional miles. Just sits in his backyard, wrapped up in storage. He wasn't willing to part with it which kinda sucks.

Good deal! They dont get the greatest fuel mileage, but I have heard they are good trucks!

wow that sounds like an awesome deal! can't wait to see some pictures of it, congrats on gettin one quick

dodge makes awesome trucks !!!!!! bad on gas tho but over all awesome .........i have a 1989 dodge van with 364,000 miles on it and starts right up .

ive got a 97 dakota 3.9 its a fun truck to drive. they dont have too many problems that i see. execpt my trans keeps going out but thats my falut. lots of burnouts 8)

My 3.9 liter does pretty good on gas. The drive here from san antonio is about 210-215 miles and I only used lil under a half tank. Would have been better but there were a couple times where I opened her up and that v6 magnum would scream. I know the dakotas will do better than most rangers and s-10's. The only reason they have a bad rep for gas mileage is because of the v8 versions such as the SLT dakota that totally sucked gas.

My 96' is the last year of the squared style. The only problem is that I need a grill. The origional one on it has a small chunk missing but those grills are easy to find in junkyards down here. The grill was the only problem so I'm not going to complain. Probably won't have pics until I go home again this weekend. Just had some new Kumo 235/75R15 tires put on today.

I like how I could tell you owned a Monte SS before I even looked at your gallery.

I'd go with a Miata. Traditional sports cars make great daily drivers, and you can have a lot of fun on the twisty backroads without getting into too much trouble. Then again, the Nissan truck would be very practical and you'd have a nice parts chaser. You've narrowed it down to some very good choices. Drive them all, think about your lifestyle, and find the best example of the breed you can.
