Oppurtunity for buick 455

should be????? anyway looks like the radioactive symbol (three triangles) with what looks like "cf" stamped behind it above the center of the manifold is 411 and 829.
and it is sitting just as it was when I pulled the car from the trees. so I know nothing about it other than it is a complete motor. I am in Poteau Ok. 479 739 1136.
I know this is not the classified section just thought the gentleman might be interested.

Oh I see... Yeah I live in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. That's a long drive haha... And my bad I must have been looking at something else on youtube or something and forgot to finish my thought. I was going to say there'd be a letter cast into the cylinder head, and what letter it was. The small blocks usually have a number or a number and a letter like one of the most wanted 350 heads are 5A's. And on big blocks usually people want either C or F heads. So I was just curious what heads it has.

Thanks for the offer though, it sounds like a good deal. That's just too far for me to drive, and shipping would be insane I'm sure at least 500 bucks.

Maybe you should put it in your own car 8) Those 455's can make a lot of power.

Oh and sorry I missed your post BillyJack, thanks for your input. Yeah I would probably consider replacing the intake if I were able to get a deal on one. The main reason I'm considering the swap is just to get better driveability out of the car. And for 800 bucks for two engines and two transmissions I don't see how I could be getting ripped off. Good info on the oil pump... My plan would be to pick the better of the two motors and do a minimum of machine work. I don't want to "have" do a complete rebuild, I'd be happy if I could just have it honed out, re-ring it and just replace all the bearings and gaskets and just drive it around. Buick parts are really expensive... They don't seem to have anywhere near the kind of aftermarket that Pontiacs and Olds have. And they definitely don't have anything like the Chevy aftermarket. So I'd like to luck out and find a solid motor that just needs some things freshened and tightened up, and it's good to go.

I hear those buick 455's are light, someone said they weigh about the same as a small block chevy with just an aluminum intake.

So finally I got back in touch with this dude... He wasn't picking up for me or something for like a week. Anyways I'm still thinking about going through with this. Engines are running and driving in 71 Buick boat tail riv's. One has no title... Other one has title but the body is shot to hell. And it comes with two spare back glasses. I would think those have to be worth some dough... They can't be easy to find.

So anyway, question... Would the rears out of an E-body Riviera work in a G-body regal? I know you can use an A body rear but it's like 4 inches wider so you need special offset rims or your tires will stick out. And you need to use adjustable upper control arms with like a hiem joint or something similar to make up for the slight difference in angle of the top mounts from the G style tabs. I don't know if anyone would know, since the Riviera was the only RWD version of the E-body... I doubt many people have used a rear from one. I haven't checked the rears out, but I bet they're 12 bolt posi. Probably not a good gear ratio though.

Oh... Plus I forgot... two full sets of Buick Rally's. 8)

Those will look 10 times better than my stock 14 inch wire wheel hub caps. 🙂

As it turns out I went to look at both cars today, and all the rims are rusted through the chrome so that's a bummer. And the motors are all rusty, not to mention that both bodies are completely and utterly destroyed from rust... And some douche busted out the glass in the side windows (it's a bad neighborhood the cars are in) so the interiors are ruined. I don't know if I feel like getting into such a project. Considering the condition of the rest of the cars, I can't imagine the engines were well cared for. And the guy couldn't even get either of them to turn over.

Although the one has a rare louvered deck lid... They only made those for one year.

I think I'm going to pass, the more I read about 455 buicks the less I like them... Parts are twice as expensive and twice as rare. I could spend probably the same money on a running driving 454 chevy powered box truck or something and pull the motor out of that and have the full support of the aftermarket. Where as just a set of headers for a 455 buick costs almost 500 bucks.

What bad things have you heard about the Buick 455? Both of mine were rusty cause they had just been sitting forever. That's just the outside of an old motor, the condition of the internals is what counts. Don't judge a book buy its cover. Both my Cutlass look like crap, but under their hood's are some nice engines. Every engine that's not a Chevy cost more to build, but a lot of them make more hp or tq than a Chevy motor of the same displacement. If cost is an issue, I would advise you to get a Chevy motor cause the others cost a good little bit more to build.

Well I don't really hear anything that's really bad about them... They've got their quirks like an Olds has its quirks. Just that mostly the cost for parts is more than the rest of GM's. And two the cars they were in were so rusted literally one of the hoods was rusted shut and the only thing that happened when you'd try to open it is it would buckle. And then they wouldn't turn over surprise surprise... I don't think anything has been done with those cars for probably at least 10 years. I don't really want to deal with that.

And a lot of performance parts you can basically only get from T/A and they go for about twice as much as parts from most parts vendors that make parts for Chevy, Olds, and Pontiac. Like a set of plain headers for a Buick I saw going for 450-600 bucks, and there's not much options to choose from. I'm not suggesting that Buicks are bad... It just doesn't seem like the right choice for me to drag those old rust buckets home without any glimmer of being able to use the parts of them without a ton of $$$ put into the project. I've got the money, I just don't know if that's the way I want to spend it. I was hoping for runners that could be transplanted with fairly little work maybe a couple hundred bucks on top of the cost for the donors.

Plus I posted in the racing/mods section because I wasn't sure where it belonged. I'm considering buying another regal that I saw on my trip down there to look at those cars/motors. This one someone already put a ton of money into, and is selling for a lot less than what he's got into it. And from the list of mod it's got on it, I'm guessing it probably breaks 11's with ease. That's not what I intended for my idea of putting a 455 in there, but 11's sounds pretty cool.

Did you try turning them over with a socket on the crank? Any motor that's just been sitting out that long isn't going to do much if anything. The hood issue could have been a broken hood latch cable. Like I said, I've been there done that, but I'm more than pleased with the results of my motor after 2-3 years of getting it together like I wanted it. Should it break, I've got another one to swap everything over to as well. If your just looking for something to put together quick, and for a low cost, then a Chevy motor is for you. I'm well aware of the lack of aftermarket support for the V8 Buick motors. TA almost has a complete monopoly on performance parts for these motors. The parts aren't cheap, but they put out good numbers, especially in torque. I've got a few TA parts in my motor, and some Poston parts before they went out of business. I'm not a V8 Buick guru, but go over to v8buick.com and pick some of those guys' brains. Maybe they'll be able to help you make a decision.
