Optimum Shift Points?

Hi crew,
I was very curious about what the optimum shift points were in my 86 Cutlass, has a stock VIN Y 307 V8 with a 200r4 transmission and 2.14 rear end gear ratio (sad I know). I like to manually shift when I'm trying for speed but I can only really go by feel at what RPM is all my torque or horsepower at. If you have a breakdown of what the torque and horsepower specs at certain RPMs that would be abundantly helpful.
Also, dumb question but how do I feel the difference between where my peak horsepower is at and my peak torque. My understanding is that torque is felt by the rate of acceleration and horsepower is top speed. I could be dead wrong, please fill me in?

P.S: If this changes things I have true dual exhaust flowing through flowmaster 40 mufflers, no cats.
 
307 "Y" roller engine i believe has
140hp @ 3200 RPM
255tq @ 2000 RPM

I know the "9" engine's (H/O & 442) had:
180hp @ 4400 RPM
245tq @ 3200 RPM
WOT upshift 1-2: 5200 rpm, 2-3: 4900 rpm, 3-4: 4400 rpm

Im sure your exhaust upgrades helped, but now need to upgrade to a performer intake, and 5A heads!
 
The "easy" answer is to shift somewhere between peak and 200 rpm above peak horsepower. 3200/3400 rpm.

Your drop back, meaning the rpm the engine drops to after shift should be where peak torque is, 2000 rpm.

It's going to not "feel" right shifting so quick but you have a very narrow power band to work with and have to stay in it.
