I have stock 79 cutlass 260 . I've replaced water pump, thermostat and hose. I drove down the block and back and I can see that the top hose has moved, swelled up. I've tightend the hose real good. im not sure what it could be. someone told me I might need a new radiator cap.? any help. THANKS

Radiator or just the cooling system might need a flush or replacement if its not flowing good. Or you could have air in the system. Maybe drain and refilling the cooling system?

Worst case could be bad head gaskets.
thankls radiator is the cooling system right? so ill flush radiator asap n see what happens. does running the a/c have anything to do with it?

the only fan there is, is the one in front of water pump. im sorry I love cars but don't no much bout them

Sounds like it could be a bad hose, or too much pressure in the system (which could be due to a blockage or a radiator cap with too high a pressure rating for your application, or maybe a stuck thermostat)

Why did you replace water pump? Was it replaced due to an over-heat condition?

What did the coolant look like when you drained it when doing the water pump replacement?

What is the thermostat rated for, 180-degree, 195-degree? Know that on standard thermostat will open approximately 10-degrees higher than rated and may stay there.

With only driving it a block down and back and it overheated, what is over-heated to you? Was there steam coming from underhood, temp gauge / light come on? Hopefully you have a gauge, and if so what was reading? Is temp gauge accurate? As other stated, the cap may not be up to par or not the correct rating.

Fan clutch operating properly? Or do you have a non-clutch fan on there?

With the hose expanding you may have air in the system, especially since you just drove down the block and back. When refilling did you go slow and then squeeze the up hose a few times to help get the air out. Also check your overflow bottle, where is that reading - you may have to clean that as well.
