Owners of Cutlasses with SBC....clearance question...

What type (brand and model) of air cleaner do you have installed on your vehicle?

I haven't been able to find an air cleaner that I can mount on my carb that doesn't give me clearance issues...

I can close the hood, but I don't like that when the hood is closed it rests in contact with my air cleaner...

It is a good excuse to purchase a cowl hood... 8) and that is the only way I'll be able to install the air cleaner that matches with my valve covers, but it might be a while and I want to resolve this minor issue...

Drop base air cleaner.

I have a 3" element & an RPM AIR-GAP intake. Hood fabric just misses the air cleaner by 1/4".

Must be the intake you have - my fathers factory SBC Cutlass has a factory breather on it with no clearance issues (as you'd expect for a factory car I guess!) 🙂 A drop base should solve the problem for you as mentioned.

Must be the intake you have - my fathers factory SBC Cutlass has a factory breather on it with no clearance issues (as you'd expect for a factory car I guess!) 🙂 A drop base should solve the problem for you as mentioned.

I thought the air cleaner was too tall...

I just finished my swap in my GP and i used a 14x3 flat base air filter summit part number# sum-239431 with the reusable element. It barely fit when i trimmed the chrome strip stud. :lol:

what carb are you running? if your running a quadrajet those are a lot taller than the edelbrach ones.
