Wtf can I do with this mess? I tried 320 and it cleaned up a bit, but I REALLY don't want to take it off, breaking the front seal and timing cover or torque on the balancer bolt. I just want to clean it up a bit, then Sharkhide or clear coat it. It was oxidized pretty bad, and it looks slightly better now.

Will the red scuff work on 320 scratches, or should I knock it down to 4 or 600?
the sandpaper will be sharper by design alone compared to any scuff pad.try an area with the 4 and 6 then the pad see if it's what you want.i made my stainless as smooth as possible before using the pad.again using a block of some kind,no hand jobs.

Gotcha. I used a block with the 320, but it's a b*tch to get straight across leaning over the core support and fenders, especially on jackstands. I'm really leaning towards polishing the damned thing because it's so hard to get the grain straight.

I was going after Donovan since he brush finished his trim, but any advice is welcome!

What kind of finish are you looking to get on it Bruce?

Just a naturalish grain; it had one before. This all started from the water pump. It got pretty crusty, so I clear coated the new one. That was a mistake because it turned a nasty shade of gunmetal gray like my intake and valve covers used to be. The alternator is roached too. I was hoping the plate would offset those a bit. I like the 320 sparkle, but can't get it uniform.
