I'm going to paint the front end first if it's not too cold in a month or two, to get an idea of how it's going to look. I've found what I think I like, if anyone has any experience with this paint let me know:

nighthawk black pearl - chose this one because it's durable, easily matched, and has a nice blue tone to it. I need to find a honda/acura in real life to see just how metallic it is (don't like paint that is overly- metallic).

you can see the blue very well here:

I heard european clears are little harder to sand down than american, the silver paint (silver burch) on my truck was very easy to work with, does this apply to japanese paints also? I don't want to sand clear with 600, or I would've chose a BMW color I really like

I would go with the black pearl, my gf has a prelude like in the pic and its a really sharp color. It will look just black to prolly 8 out of 10 people but car guys will notice it. When the sun hits it right you will see a nice blue pearl and I think it would look SICK on a gbody. Looks really nice at night too when its under the right light.

Also the metalic flakes are really small, nice smooth pearl look.

thats what I like to hear, thanks I'm going to a dealer in the next few weeks to check out the color in person

i like the black to but i've always thaught white with a little bit of blue pearl looks pretty sweet to. cadillac had a white pearl that would switch between blue, green, and maybe purple in the right light. i think the black will look pretty sweet aslong as the body is strait as an arrow. theres a kid that drives a dark red del sol that has heavy gold pearl. if you look at the thing drivin by its pretty friendly with all the waves you get from the sun hitting the pearl just right lol

For a car that will get wet washed I am more inclined to recommend something that is not a variant of vivid black. The black pearl mentioned I have on my street glide & it keeps well. On a couple of spots where the clear got nicked I got them right out & can see hardly any inconsistency

Cool color choice!! I just hope your body is super smooth, because that black paint will show every imperfection.

Just beware of black.... It is the easest to match but every imperfection will show. As with white, harder to match but easiest to hide any small imperfections. As for the Honda color, any black from Honda has colors to it, all very fine metallics. You can also get it in single stage variants.

Thanks for the advice and comments everyone! I'm glad to hear it's easily matched if the clear gets a little chipped. Since the front of the car is so different than the rest and won't have the exact same lines, it wont hurt to spray a little before the real deal in about a year. I'm going to buy a 35-40$ spray can base/clear and check out the color this winter.

... ya I knew what I was gettin into with the black color, hopefully it will turn out glossy and sexy. I'm going to have to fill and block the front of the car at least 3-4 times. The sides and roof are very straight, I'm happy with how the car came. The trunk lid and hood will be new fiberglass. I'll only have a few dings to fix up on the doors and body. The rockers and fender flares (& fitting the front wheels/tires) will be a huge project in itself. I want to get this thing in the paint booth before next fall.

- for the white pearl color- I like the idea, but it's impossible to match and feather perfectly... at least with my level of skills. Maybe some experts can do it, but i'm tryin to save myself headache in the future.

yeah that was the major problem with that color. i heard stories of people getting scratches in the paint, they had to re paint the whole car to get it all to match
