I have been thinking about this for a while now.

Do you know the clear bra kits you can get for newer vehicles? It's basically a film, like window tint, that adheres to your paint to protect it from chips from gravel and such.

If you don't know, here you gohttps://www.xpel.com/products/paint_protection_kits.asp

I was thinking, if the companies that sell these kits have just plain rolls of this stuff you can buy, why not put this along the rocker panels of your newly painted g-body to protect from rock chips? Then you don't have to put ugly mud flaps on your G.

What do you guys think? I thought of this just because I don't want mud flaps, they would make my car look even more like something a grandpa or grandma would drive.

My dad had that done when he bought his Chrysler Concorde in '98.
It's holding up pretty well, just a tad of shrinking on the hood, where you can see that it receded just a hair.

Might be worth a shot. If you don't like it, you can always take it off...
There's also the spray on kind, like 3M Rock Guard and such...

It's called surface guard or helicopter tape. You can get it from ISC racers tape. It's a 8mil clear tape. It works well. We use it on our track cars. it is also removable (not easily).

If its going or rockers, 3m sells a product called rocker gaurd or chip gaurd, which was on most cars factory, its a clear paint that come sin spray can, so, unliek the tape n vynals, it doesntr shrink, turn yellow, or tear off, it holds up, also seal the car so it doesnt rust, whereas the tape can get a rock chip, then hold water underneath of it.

that 3M spray sounds allright, but I jusyt don't like the idea of spraying stuff on the rockers.

GSXR FIXR: Does it leave behind any residue?

I think I'm going to try it.

any residue gcan be removed with brake cleaner and a rag. it doesn't yellow or shrink either.

3M makes it as Scotchgard.
It's called paint protection film and comes in a 4"x84" roll. Part# 84904, I get mine at NAPA. You can cut it to the size/shape you like.
Works great but, you would probably have to replace it occasionally, a heat gun works to remove.
