I had a close friend that cut, chopped, stacked, and burnt wood. Convinced him to go find some already split. He said no, it's too expensive. Ended up he found some kids that were selling it, not only cheaper than he could buy full logs for, but it was already split and they stacked it I'm his dump trailer too!. He usually spent two weeks a year cutting and stacking, now he spends two hours picking up ten face cords, for less $ than he was spending before....consider what your times worth to you.there's decent effort in burning wood, depending where it comes from(live or dead)it's gotta be split, moved(sometimes twice)stacked, clean up the area after etc etc.in the past few years supplied wood has become almost equal to other sources of energy.it's almost not worth it in some case to use an additional $ource compared to turning up the t-stat and going back about your business..

I hear every word you're saying. I stacked uncountable chords of wood when I was a kid. Split plenty too. I was surfing CL yesterday and it looks like it runs $200-300/chord and most guys offer delivery for not much more. I would estimate that I would probably be in the 5 chord range per season -- so lets call it $1500. Not sure what that would translate to in pellets. The upside of pellets is I have a patio with a sliding door about 10-15' from where I'd probably place a stove in the basement. I'd probably stack wood around the corner or leave it on a trailer nearby. Just a little more work/walking for wood.consider what your times worth to you.there's decent effort in burning wood, depending where it comes from(live or dead)it's gotta be split, moved(sometimes twice)stacked, clean up the area after etc etc.in the past few years supplied wood has become almost equal to other sources of energy.it's almost not worth it in some case to use an additional $ource compared to turning up the t-stat and going back about your business..
