There are other ways to make power. Plus losing the leaded fuel affects all cars that run it, so the playing field is still level. Sure, the cars might be a little slower, but so what?

Now on the flipside of the coin, racing events account for 1.5% of all leaded fuel used in Canada. The rest is taken up by aircraft. I find it absurd that the Candian government can say that people at the track or even living close to it can be affected. If this is fact, what about all of the people working at or living near airports????

So, I'm on the fence with this one. If it is health related it should be banned, but then it should ALL be banned. It's just the governments way of being able to claim that they are making a difference, even if they are only attacking 1.5% of the problem.

Its not about us here in Canada having to use unleaded gas.
Its about losing our big race events that draw cars from the U.S.
The U.S. does not have a ban on leaded fuel and most cars in NMCA/NSCA, NHRA and IHRA competition still run some form of leaded gas.
Most U.S. Racers will not change their set up to run one or two events in Canada and will just avoid these events.
Also any racer here that races in the U.S. will not be able to test up here on the fuel needed to compete down south.

A similar ban happened in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec back in the early 90s. That ban lead to the loss of our only national events in Canada. Even though the ban was lifted later that year, it was too late. NHRA and IHRA pulled the events.
IHRA has finally come back and given us 3 events at 3 different tracks. These tracks have invested large money to upgrades and rely on these events to survive. Not to mention all the tracks that are close to the border have many smaller events that draw a lot of U.S. cars.
Unfortunately the NHRA never came back but there have been talks about another event some where in Canada. That will never happen if there is a fuel ban.
