hi

i am a new member here and I buy a regal with a 305 engine last week

and I am thinking to go with stock LT1 that I already have

i will add:

GM carburetor intake manifold

holley 650cfm

old style MSD distributor

camshaft + roller rockers

700r4 with full manual shift kit & 2500 stall Torque Converter

long tube headers

3.73

so what is approximately the time I am looking for in the 1/4 mile if this go ok with me ?

Welcome to the site 8)

Not sure if I have seen someone do a carbureted LT1 before. Are you leaving the camshaft alone or are you upgrading that :?: How does the OPTI-spark work without fuel injection :?:

Just to throw a ball park number out there ... I would probably say a mid-13 second car with the factory cam

I will change the camshaft and the roker arms i need to search for the cam later

you can use victor jr 350 intake manifold and do a new hols in it or you can buy this one

I run a carburated LT1 in my 84 cutlass .....

havent check 1/4 time yet ...but love the combo

GM intake + quadrajet
comp CC503 cam
roller rockers
shorties headers

TH700R4 + 3200 T/C
ford 9" 3:50 gears

get the opti spark cover to remove it GM p/n : 12367600 ( GM performance parts catalog)

i didnt know lt1 coulds be converted to use a regular dizzy. thats news to me.

Honestly, you can't really call it an LT1 anymore . The injection system and optispark are what makes the engine what it is. If you are going to remove all those pieces you may be money and work ahead to just sell it as-is and spend the money on a Vortec 350. The Vortec heads were based off the LT1 port design. Aside from that you get 4-bolt mains, a more pump-gas friendly 9.4 compression ratio, conventional style timing cover, conventional water pump and accessory drive, roller cam and a common intake bolt pattern. I guess with enough surgery you can make a dude look like a chick -- but it's still a dude. If you like chicks, look for a chick. Way less work, right  ?

i have run a lt1 with a carb as well the lotor was a lt1 with the lt4 hot cam same gm intake manifold and a holly 750 cfm carb and and a molly hei distributor and it was but far one of the best motors i have ever pieced together.

the way that the opti is deleted is by the cover that was said earlier and the intake manifold has the distributor hole in it. the lt1 cam still has the gear on the rear to run the iol system.

getting rid of the opti was the best day of my life. u could put the ls1 coils on it but that i believe is $1,200 last time i checked.

your going to be happy with your motor after its all said and done

sorry to contradict you but what makes an LT1 , is the reverse coolant flow taht permits the 10.5 to 1 cr that a regular ( vortec )engine cant attain without some gripes !

the LT1 is roller cam too !

Depending on the cam and tune well and naturally traction anywhere from 13.50s to 14.40s. That high stall allows for some cam as does the compression so you should end up with a runner. Even with a moderate cam it should go at least 100mph in 1/4 which is about a 13.90 with decent regular radial tires. Does it have the 3 speed metric in it now? Unless you already have the 700-R4 you might look for a 200-4R as you don't have to have a driveshaft cut down.

Aren't the GMPP ZZ3 and ZZ4 engines based on the LT1?
