one of my buddies is offering me a straight up trade my 7.5 posi 3.08 gear rear end for his unknown gear 8.5 non posi rear end out of a grand national.

first question should i do it?

and second question. i have new shoes, drums and master cylinders sitting in my basement for the 7.5. will they fit the 8.5?

thanks in advance

Do it !!!
the flanges are 100% the same so the brakes will swap over from 7.5 to 8.5. Then you can pick up a posi unit for an 8.5 and slap it in for cheap

go for it.the 8.5 is a better rear.

definitely do it, you will regret it if you don't the 8.5 does use a 1 inch shorter driveshaft though. But everything else will swap over just fine.

DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! All your hardwear will bolt right up....I would make sure though that the other rear is what he said it is...I thought all GN's came with posi???? I might be wrong though. I'm sure someone will pipe in!!! Either way though, that 8.5 rear is far superior to the 7.5. One more ???, why is he wanting to do this swap heads up????? 8)

where would i get a driveshaft for it? he doesnt have one
Yours will work, just have it cut 1" is all...NO biggie 8)

his son got a gn and it came with a 8.5 on it and an extra 8.5 with it. it has the 2 squares on the bottom. he wants to trade because he needs a posi for his regal.

do you know what im looking at price wise to shorten it?

IF it's an origional GN rear that it would be stock with posi. if it's not pretty sure it's not a GN rear end.
