Pontiac 455 worth $500?

While we're at it, is there any way of using the factory radial compressor on a 455? I'm assuming the 301 brackets probably won't work. I prefer to keep the creature comforts.

I think the lines wouldn't work with the old compressor. I am assuming the 301 brackets would work since all Pontiac V8s are technically the same but I am not positive.

I'd like to keep the compressor that already on the 305 that's in the car. I know the old axial style one on the 455 is a no-go. I thought there were some minor differences when it came to the 301.

Ooops, read your question wrong. I am not positive, but there is some more knowledgeable Pontiac guys here that can answer your question.

When I replaced the 3.8 in my Bonnewagon with a 301 I also wanted to keep the R-4 compressor that came on the car. Luckily a turbo 301 parts motor I had came with 3 of the 4 mounting brackets for the R-4. The missing one I got from Shotgun on this site. The hoses were a tight squeeze but I made it work. I had some A-6 mounts from 79' and 80' Firebird 301's but I saw that the R-4 and A-6 mountings were completely different. I would just use an A-6 compressor and mounts as they are right for the 455 and the A-6 is a bulletproof design that will freeze your nuts off when working properly. The R-4 tries, but can't compare. I know that the 80' 301 NA motor came with the A-6 and the 80' T-301 came with the R-4 so I'm thinking they used the same hose connections. I wanted new hoses for a G-body W/301 R-4 and they were not available anywhere at all.

I can agree with that. What about the hoses though? If I go ahead with this 455 and A-6 compressor, will any of the hoses from either car work in the g-body with it? I could figure it out if I was looking at them, but that isn't the case right now.

Without eyeballing the hoses I am assuming they all attach the same. But you know what happens when you *ss-ume. The lengths would be the issue. Rockauto has nice pictures of the hoses.

I'll figure it out one way or another I suppose. I was hoping someone knew off the top of their head.

I was on 301 Garage and a guy said he DID get his R-4 compressor to work on his 455, but it took a lot of work.
