Pontiac single exhaust head pipe?

I can't believe this. I need a single exhaust "Y" pipe at the heads on a Pontiac V-8 and there are none available. I can get stainless steel Ram Air dual pipes no problem. Noting how rare Ram Air exhaust manifolds are I have to wonder just what gives here? I can't be the only guy needing a single exhaust "Y" pipe!

I think the issue is that most do not replace a y pipe with a y pipe, but rather go with duals. Any competent exhaust shop should be able to make one up for you. I promise, yours is not the only application where this is an issue. If you so decide, you could probably get some flanges and bends and make one up with a welder.

I came up with the Walker 40393 part number looking up the Y-Pipe for a 78 Grand Prix with a 301.

Texas82Gp I was about to jump on that, but on the Walker site it says that pipe fits both the 4.9 Pontiac and the 5.0 Chevy. I know it does not fit both and under the illustration it has 5.0 in parentheses. Searching other Pontiac models that should interchange I come up with different part numbers that are , again, not available. Now I am totally confused. EDIT: I have an actual Walker catalog from 2000. That pipe is for the 305 Chevy only. The 301 uses #40348. Marcar, competent shop is the problem. By me it is getting hard to find a guy who knows his way around a pipe bender. I usually end up making my own and I am getting tired of that chore.

Sorry for that. I just came up with that part number on Rock Auto for a 78 GP with a 301. Wish we had an old Walker catalog to confirm.

I know, I know. I've been fooled by RockAuto many times. The bad part is that when you tell them it does not fit- they say that is what the vendor said fits and it is not their problem. You really need to do your homework with them. I am a big fan of Walker and their site is great, almost as good as having a paper catalog.

I found this and it is pretty amazing- stainless. It is expensive but it would outlast me.
