Lightning rods? I've seen these poser shifters in a few cars around town. Anyone else think the levers look too tall, bulky and goofy? I wouldn't criticize them if the weren't intended to capitalize on the original Hurst Lightning Rod name. There are no rods in them....They are cheaply made stamped steel levers and look out of place in an Oldsmobile in my opinion. I am also surprised that Hurst Performance isn't taking legal action.

Hurst not being willing to license repops is why there are so few parts available

They don't function the same as the old ones. And they ain't cheaply made I can guarantee you they are better made, more robust than the original Hursts. You can get them cut to any length you want. I had mine cut 4" shorter. Best feeling shifter I have ever used including the L-Rods from back in the day. If the site would let me upload photos I would share one.

Cut shorter I'll admit they do look better but wow they are big and take up a lot of space. I still think they should have marketed them with a different name. Is your car an SS or a GP? I can't tell from the pic.

Mine is an aerocoupe Monte SS with the GP dash swapped in. They really aren't bad with space. I have one of the first pair and at one point Kilduff was using my wrecked 83 SS (what they were in first) on his site.

When I bought them they were labelled as "Lenco style" not Lightning Rods. I honestly believe the Lightning Rod name change came about from people looking at them and calling them that without knowing the differences. There is no Lightning Rod moniker on them anywhere.

Take a look at the other post, they look really good in the stock 442 console. If I would have been smart and bought that cheap 87 442, these would be in there. I take it they shift nice and positive?

They shift great. IMO the pull to shift motion feels more natural than the push. No buttons to push to move the rods either. I've never used Lenco shifters, but they look like they operate the same.
