power steering box upgrade questions

I've read several posts on this and other sites about what is required to swap the steering box.

I've got a 1980 gbody with a worn out slow ratio box.

I purchased a cardone 27 6550 gear box that is supposed to be the quick ratio box for a '92 fbody. My question is do I really need to change the power steering pump valve and get new ps hoses for the swap? When did the hoses switch to the metric size?

Looks like 79ish, some may have had metric fittings, some std, depending on which box the car came with.
