Im not sure if this is the best thread to post this but what the hell. Can anybody tell me what the best power steering bracket style is for a non AC v-belt application? Im looking for new mounting brackets because mine is just hacked together with homemade brackets and I have to adjust it probly once a month or else it comes loose and the belt comes off or just squeals like a b*tch. I have tried different belts and learned the belt is NOT the issue. Im looking on Summit but I have no idea what style pump I have....Saginaw, Saginaw P series??? If I had the money or could find one I would just get a serpentine setup and be done with it. Any input is appreciated.

Any ideas :bump:

Your name is 83 monte so I can only guess that your talking about a small block chevy application??

What style water pump do you have? Thats gonna make a big difference in which power steering pump bracket you can use...If you can fit your hand behind your water pump then you have a long style pump and you'll need a vastly different bracket. Post a picture, these are typically the pumps i've found in any of the G body's i've owned. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AAZ-20-7803F

These guys have some pretty viable mounting solutions. Im ordering one monday and hopefully it fixes my problems :blam:

Your in the exact same boat i'm in... Which btw isn't a good boat to be in. You definitely have a long style water pump and a regular Saginaw power steering pump. I feel your pain on the squeeky turning

The stock G body power steering pump bracket out of say a 305 or 350 monte carlo won't fit because we have a long style water pump and usually in a car application they run the short style water pumps...

The other power steering location of the 2 bolts holes on the bottom right of the block won't work because the pulley will be hitting the steering box.

The aftermarket reproduction brackets that I've found for a long style water pump made by nostalgic parts goes 10 1/2 inches over from the center bolt in the harmonic balancer and 3/4 of an inch up. I measured that area in my cutlass and it looks like it would be a C*nt hair above the steering box or sitting right ontop of it... neither is really ideal..My measuring method wasn't entirely accurate because I had to use a tape measure and an extender with a socket on it. As a matter of fact ima have the neighbor kid come over and help me re measure it because if this bracket from nostalgic parts fits it would solve all our problems... I will let you know what i find

A few good options:

Pay a performance shop to custom build you a bracket, probably wouldn't cost more than a hundred and probably even less if you know someone. If i run into weird things I tend to call Adkins racing, those guys are boss about tackling any project and they are located like 15mins from my house.

Build your own bracket... Gonna be frustrating even if you got the tools because you have to mount that pulley in the right plane to line up with the grooves on your other pulleys.

Or Convert over to an S-10 manual steering box... Say Eff power steering...

Or the expensive way...Change your water pump, change your fan, change your fan spacer, change your pulleys... Ugg. :puke:

I will let you know what i find

Ii don't really understand the issue. I run a long water pump in my car and i have the stock power steering pump and all stock pulleys and brackets...

The problem im having is that my car didnt come with the factory brackets for it when I bought it. Then about 2 years ago I changed the pump to a different style(inlet tube and stud on the back were different) because mine went bad and I didnt realize they were different. I ordered a March power steering bracket set earlier this week and it doesnt work. I also dropped one of the brackets and it chipped so now I have a $53 paper weight I cant return. So I dont have a Saginaw P series which confuses the living **** out of me when it comes to ordering brackets because nobody says what series its for. If I didnt just get a GN box I would just say **** it and go manual steering. Its been nothing but a nightmare with this thing.

In that case can't you just strip them off a v8 car from a junkyard or something? I'll check to see if there are any around here...

I would but theres only 2 pull a parts around here and neither one keep anything this old. I think im just gonna throw it back together, deal with the squealing, and drive it like it is until I get the funds to buy a new pump. Since I already have the brackets(I cant return), and my current pump is beaten up and evidentally wont work with any aftermarket brackets, I think buying a $50 reman pump from NAPA is what il do just to save the headache of mixing parts since I already have the brackets that will work.
