I drove my GP a little under 400 miles round trip today for a court appearance for a client and as I was getting there the steering was getting stiffer and the pump was making noise. Oil level in the pump was ok so the pump is on its way out. I have the serpentine set up and was wondering what pumps you guys were using other than the stock pump...

Try doing a fluid change first, when I bought my car the pump was loud, I could barely turn it, and someone had dumped ATF in it, I drained it and refilled it with Power Steering fluid and it was fine after that. The P/S system gets quite hot and will break down fluid over time, and it's a non-filtered system so the junk stays suspended in the fluid.

I've used atf for years and never a problem with it. I just changed the high pressure hose last week and filled it with fresh atf so I'm pretty sure it's the pump but thanks anyway

the Jones racing has some nice products but they arn't cheap. I'm trying to see if I can fit the Saginaw type II pump with the serpentine set up. Thanks for the link for the rebuild and if I had time I might consider that if the kit is avaialble

thanks to the guys I deal with in racing I'm picking up a new pump and reservoir for $40... 🙂

got the pump in tonite. I had to use my old resevoir cause the bolt orientation in the new resevoir put the filler neck in the wrong spot. I picked up some power steering fluid since the Valvoline was on sale and cheaper than the atf fluid so I'll see how that works out...

Get rid of it and go with manual steering 🙂
