I have an 1986 Olds Cutlass Supreme I've just installed a built chevy 406 csb and a rebuilt chevy 350 transmission w/ 10 miles on both of them about 5 days ago. After 4 burn outs I broke the bell housing on my transmission. Do anybody know why this happened and I can do to prevent this from happening again?

What do you have for motor mounts/trans mount? Are you sure the bellhousing bolts were the correct length, some of the holes in a SBC can bottom out leaving the trans loose.

Check the motor brackets, make sure they are correct I had truck engine brackets in my car, and my car went through 2 bellhousings on a 700R4 before we realized what was going on. Also what crossmember are you using? You can check my build thread for a little more info.

Thanks guys the man that built the engine said it was from burning out. Trying to get me to buy or have transmission fixed. So is it his fault or mine?

you can cut the bellhousing off and use one of those jw bellhousings that bolt on.
chances are since the transmission internals are fine there is not much the shop can do. defenitly check the bellhousing to block bolts and make sure all your mounts are right.

How old was the bellhousing and how much torque were you ;putting through it?.

It's possible it was a faulty casting but it didn't show up with regular use. Possibly it is misaligned but I doubt it.

Maybe you got unlucky. As it's said in any motorsport - if you don't break stuff sometime you aint trying hard enough.......

Roger.
