I got a 1998 chevy k1500 with a 5.7L. It had a small squeak to it so I pulled the belt off and found the alternator had a small noise, but the tensioner pulley was weak and definately the loudest of them all. So I replaced the pulley and put a new belt on. The noise went away and I idled it drove it probably a mile, still no noise. Then I let it idle for about 15 minutes the next day, the second I drove out of my apartment complex a massive squeal 10x louder then before came back, and now it only charges about 10 volts. I got the a/c bypass delete pulley but I used the spacer and it looks aligned but there is no difference with or without the spacer in the noise(plus I have had it on for about year). I feel like it is the alternator but I want some other opinions because it just seems odd it went from being fine to how it is now within a mile.

Alternators go bad, if it is only charging 10 volts then the alternator needs to be replaced, if a replacement clears up the noise that is good too, if not you can look somewhere other than the alternator for the noise.

Yeah I just found it odd it went that fast, but wasn't sure if the voltage would drop that low if the belt was slipping or not.

the voltage should not drop below 12 or close to it since that is the level the battery should be at. Sound like that alternator has not been charging properly and your running on the battery which drains it. Or you have a bad alternator plus a weak battery

Yeah I get that I just never seen one go that quickly before being charging 14-16 volts one day to not charging at all the next just seemed really strange to me anyway

if it was charging 16 volts good chance the voltage regulator was on it's way out.
