I always pull my engine and trans together. I have a cherry picker engine hoist that tilts the motor and transmission. The last time I pulled the complete header panel off the bu and the motor and transmission came straight out with ease. Just seems like more of a hassle trying to get to the transmission bolts out and lined back up before and after.

I agree with pulling it out together, I just pulled the motor ad transmission out of mine an it was done with ease. I just pulled the doghouse off and pulled the motor and transmission straight out. Sounds like you plan on doing a lot and probably be easier out of the car then in it. I never had to tilt the motor either, even if you do need to tilt the motor set it down and rehook your cherry picker.
