the previous owner had it rebuilt because thats what he was told needed to be redone when the car failed inspection. my buddy seems to think we can adjust it and it should run a lot better.

also today while i was blocking off all my emissions he was checking tightness on bolts and the top of my carb was about hand tight and so were the 4 bolts holding the carb on and my car is a lot quieter with the emissions tubes gone. i used 1/4" brass plugs to seal off the manifolds and it was easy

What is a torque converter lockup solenoid? I am putting a 500cfm carb on my 231 with an edelbrock intake. And no it is not computer controlled-it has a vacuum advance distributor from the factory.

I think the problem is that there is not many people that know how to properly rebuild the electronic carbs. They also need some special tools that not many people have.

The two special tools that are mandatory are a pair of gauges for setting the M/C solenoid and the bowl vent. I've picked up a couple of sets of these now on ebay for about $5 a set. More importantly, the first time I rebuilt one of these carbs I did not have the special gauges. The Chassis Service Manual gives you the critical dimensions. One gauge is simply a piece of brass tubing cut to the correct length. The other is a "J" shaped piece of wire. I fabricated both of these in a few minutes.
