Can anybody help me ID this Qjet? I thought it was non computer controlled then thought again, it's what's on top of the 305 in my 84 Elco. It runs good, secondaries open up, no stumbles... doesn't want to start rite up sometimes, and could be a bit more responsive, but I have to do plugs and cap and rotor.

I think I want to try and keep it, maybe improve it, instead of going the AFB route. I'm clueless about the Qjets other than removing them.

What's the number stamped on the carb? See arrow in pic, should start with 70 or 170.

Are the front caps punched out? You can turn out the mixture screws about a 1/4 each clockwise, will be a little more responsive. Can you get a wider zoom-out of how your cables are mounted? They should be in line... Parallel and perpendicular... Not hanging off at an angle like that. This will effect throttle response.

Yet the main thing is... It is way past for a rebuild. It's covered with dirt, grime and varnish.

Another thing to look at. Pull valve cover. You might have 601 or 416 heads, block number should be 766, 776, 201 202 or 203. If it is, you have a 305 HO and the block numbers mentioned if you have those has the webbing good enough for 4 bolt mains.

Don't think the caps are punched out. The whole throttle assembly is kinda wacky with a zip tie and all. Block # was 5.0L or something like that. I have yet to pull the valve covers but I'd be happily surprised if it has HO heads or block.

After more research it appears to not be a CCC but has an electric double accelerator pump, since it doesn't have the plug on front of the carb.

I intend to upgrade to a performer rpm intake and squeeze what I can out of this engine. I already have a bore adapter plate and it would be nice to not have to buy another carb immediately, or at all if this Qjet can perform.

Back of block, drivers side will be 5.0LG and also a 6 to 8 digit number. Most of the 84 305s were 201, 202, 203 or some were 776, and 777 were always HO of the ones I came across.

The numbers I refer to is the last three.
I.E.: 460777

The basic 305 is a 6 inch harmonic dampener, nodular iron crank, cast pistons. From the outside you can't tell them apart as far as 305 or 350.

If you find a 010 block with 8 inch diameter and thick harmonic balancer it will almost always be a 350 Truck 624 or 441 heads and 4 bolt mains. 441 heads are ok ... 624 large chamber low compression and crack prone.
