Question about a 8.5 rear with a 3.42 gear

My question is my friend wants to sell me a rear that he said is a 8.5 with 3.42 gears posi now i have my factory 7.5 with 3.73 he said i wont notice much of a difference from the 3.73 to the 3.42 gear is this true and is it worth me buying his 3.42 posi im tired of the one legger burn out lol or should i just wait and buy a 8.5 with a 3.73 or 9" for $900 im not going to be racing but when i decide to put more power i want to know my rear can handle it.

you will notice abit off the line, but the 342 is alot nicer on the highway, good for occasional drag as well, snatch them if ya can, you wont be dissapointed

If it's a 8.5 rear I'd definitely snag it if it's fairly cheap. You can buy a set of 3.73's new for $150 for an 8.5, plus the 8.5 will hold up to way more than the 7.5 will.

thats a killer deal. I think i know someone who has a drive shaft you might need. its an 1 inch shorter. but a stock GN shaft will fit.

in our area you can get $700 to $900 easily for that but its well worth holding on to it.
