Its quite a intricate procedure,i personally woudnt attempt it,but that justme.why not just remove the lil pin on the bottom of shifter lever on the new column and use it like that till you get some more insight or know how on the subject? Might save you some money and time.

I have converted two of my G-Body Cutlasses to floor shift from column shift and it is actually very easy. The key is to make sure that the steering column you transfer to must match the indication on the floor shifter; i.e. 3 speed or 4 speed. Otherwise you will not be able to shift into "1" manually. The column will still rotate as the neutral safety switch is controlled from there. I do not believe it is wise to try to just change the sleeve as the mechanism to "pull the lever" toward you to change gears will still be active and you won't be able to shift from the floor. The correct columns are not hard to find as I have 3 spares (all 4 speed). Coverting is a really simple process after I really did my homework and had a local fabricator make up some brackets for the console from samples. If I can help, let me know.
