Properly set up ,you will get better mileage at cruise and lite/part throttle simply because less fuel is going in the chamber.
The wide band and an EGR would be the way to go if you want power and mpg.
Most egrs come with multiple holed washers so even the egr can be tuned.
As stated above, an egr DOES NOT effect full throttle power.
