Some had 42 amp, some had 63 amp, there was an 85 amp, and a 105 amp. What are you tryn to do/figure out?

I wanted to get some more juice for my sound system.

It has rear defrost and A/C if that helps narrow it down. I just want to know how much I am getting right now without having to test it.

The rear defrost usually gives you one of the larger two but as I remember I don't think you could get any bigger then a 105 in 81, maybe I'm wrong. There are a bunch of different companys that make bigger aftermarket's. Ohio Generators are probably (in my opinion) the best. Heres a link... http://ohiogen.com/

probably easier to get a farad capacitor, or 2......probably get a decent one for the same price as a new alternator

peace

That is tru. But a larger alt does come in handy sometimes, especially if you live somewhere where you use the a/c alot. I have a stock, little alt (no rear defrost) in my Monte and before I put a couple caps on it my headlights would dim ridiculously, I got 2 2 farads in it now and I'm good.

The light on my deck dims every time the bass hits, even with a capacitor. When you turn the car on in the morning the lights dim, when you turn on anything the lights dim. The alternator is probably pretty old. I don't remember it being replaced so it's at least 10 years old so it could also be losing it's strength just a bit.

My mom has a '07 Grand Prix GT and the lights dim when you roll the windows up and down. Seems like they never intended to give the car any extra power.

Your running your highs off your deck right? They usually do dim when you don't have an amp. But as far as your lights on the car dimming, yeah the alt's they put on alot of cars don't put out enough to handle the extra draw that alot of amps pull. An aftermarket alternator will help with this.

Yeah, only the subs are running off the amp. I checked on JEGS and they seem to run from $235 up with the $235 being a 140 Amp with the A/C and Rear Defrost Wires.

I'll just wait until it becomes a problem... 😀

keep an eye on Ebay too, alot of times you can find them on there pretty good price
