im still thinking grounds. you could chabge the alternator out if you have another lying around. ground from engine to fender, ground from engine to fire wall.

There's a write-up on Oldsgmail.com somewhere on how to hardwire all your gauges but I can't seem to find it.
It can be done with wiring, loop connectors and securing them to the contact threads with nuts.
