I have 85 cutlass with rallye pac gauges car originally came with olds 307 now has chevy 350 problem is I can't get the temp to read on the gauge I got a temperature switch and gauge doesn't move at all which wires should I check?

did you get a temp switch or a sender? switch is for a warning light, sender is for a gauge.

What color wire plugs into the temperature switch? Solid green wire doesn't seem to have power when I check it with my circuit tester

It looks like the proper sending unit for a temp gauge. If I'm not mistaken, the green lead should have voltage on it. You are testing it with the key on, correct?

is your car factory equipped with factory installed gauges? here are two diagrams, first one is for warning lights. second one is for factory installed gauges. these are from the '85 service manual. the factory gauges show two wires going to the sender, one is green with white tracer, the other is green.

So the green/white should be the wire for the gauge judging from the diagram..that wire has power with key switched on I know

with your green and white wire disconnected, your gauge should read full cold. if you touch this wire to ground, gauge should read full hot. if so, sender is bad or wrong. if gauge doesn't move properly, it is the wiring or gauge at fault.
