Ok so i was also looking at the Dakota and i can get one in good shape with all power options plus a crew cab for cheaper then a ford ranger with the 4.0l v6. Has anyone ever had Dakotas before?

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

I drive an '08 Ranger Sport, 4.0L V6 5 speed. It is my daily driver and it is a great truck. you still see a lot of these trucks on the road because they are great trucks. It is a shame that Ford discontinued them. Which model Ranger are you looking at?

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

Good sturdy truck. Make an excellent parts hauler for any g-body. The 2.3 is very economical and for the most part reliable. They are very easy to work on and millions of 'em are in junkyards. My only advice is 'find a good used one for 3k to 5k (with air) and spend the rest putting together your g-body.

The s-10 trucks are also a good alternative and have many parts that'll swap out with the g-bodies.

Well im looking at getting the Supercab XL because its about 2000$ cheaper then the regular cab and i can fit 2 more people in it. Im hoping that it comes with power windows and door locks because thats a feature i miss, even with my Monte 😛.

Well thing is that my parents might be buying me this because i bought the Monte Carlo myself. Also because my dad did want a truck in the family so thats another reason. I was looking at used ones and they seem to be wayyy more expense then new ones :wtf: Ford right now also has all these incentives and price adjustments so your saving alot.

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

Well just found out that Ford discontinued the Ford Ranger, dont know why they still show it on their website but every dealership says they no longer get new ones and only used ones. So looking around i can only find the the Sport Rangers with the 4.0l SOHC v6. I really wanted the 4cyl for gas mileage but has anyone had one of these with the v6? If so how was the gass mileage and what improvements can i do on the engine to make it better?

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

Have you considered a Toyota?

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

Toyota Tacoma are really good as well.. I love a lot. Try looking into those.

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

Yeah thanks a lot guys for telling him to send money to Japan instead of answering his question, and you guys are from the US so shame on you. The 4.0 v6 isn't even a bad engine on gas, I mean the 4.6 gets 22mpg w 2 extra cylinders so you add a couple mpg for the missing 2 and thats what you have... and its a truck ffs so who cares about power windows. I would say that power windows are a luxury item for women not a necessity in a truck, which you should want to be as ANALOG as possible in the spirit of owning a truck. I have been trapped in power window nightmare for a long time my next car is specifically NOT going to have them. PS, who wants to buy a new ranger in this economy when you can get a used one for less than $2,000 ? That seems like a piss poor decision to me. Try going to a police auction the 4cyl ranger will never go over $2,000 at one of those - you can take that tip to the bank! If you sit back a few months those rangers will be sitting in the same exact parking spots for like $10,000 they are not worth anything, so no DONT go buy it for $12,000 thinking you're getting a deal because you're really just losing money on a truck nobody else was coming to buy. The ony reason ford cancelled them is they over powered their supply curve and killed the demand! Clearly the smart choice would be to grab one that is trashed for a few hundred dollars bc 100,000s of them will be headed to the junkyard in the next few years, people will probably be giving away parts to that worthless truck lol

By the way, did I mention they consistenly get stolen because of cheap ignition parts? Don't buy that truck new - you could look outside one day and its gone what you going to do with your $500 deductible now fool?

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

Your right about the power windows stuff, i was thinking before that it doesnt really matter if it had it or not. The reason i rather stick wit the Ford Ranger is because ive heard they are good trucks and from my friends owning them too family members, it does seem like a nice small little truck. So thats why i dont really want to get a Toyota tacoma, also because the ranger has been here for a number of years. There is a dealership that is selling one next to me, a 2010 5 speed 4.0l v6 Sport version super cab with about 80000km for 15000. Doesnt seem like a bad price but i think ill look around a bit more and see if i can still order one through ford because its still on their website

Re: Anyone ever have a Ford Ranger?

My Son-in-Law has a nice '99 model, 4 cyl and 5 speed. Pretty cool truck and great on gas. One day it stopped running, and sat for 6 months while they threw parts at it. I finally was called in and checked everything, then hooked up my Snap-On 2500 scanner which showed all is well. Odd, but here's the really odd part. I ran the "engine on- operating temp" functional test, just to see if I was getting spark and fuel as it should, like take a snapshot. I cranked the motor, and as soon as I hit the button for the test, it sputtered, coughed, shook, and began to run as if nothing was ever wrong. Computer brain fart? No one knows, but it starts and runs perfectly now. Aside from that, it's otherwise a wonderful truck.
