I think you meant 27.95, which is what I came up with. Tall tire. 2.74x3.42=9.37 final drive in 1st gear. 2.74x3.73=10.22 final drive ratio which is still acceptable. 1st shouldn't feel like granny gear. With that tall of a tire, I would go with the 3.73. 2.74x4.10=11.23 which is getting a bit steep.

With a 3.73 and, a 27.95" tire and a 0.67 overdrive ratio I calculate 2403 RPM at 80mph (129km/hr). Yeah, I would go with the 3.73. If you plan on putting a shorter tire on there, like a 60 series, then go with the 3.42.

Thanks for the advice. My buddy who is going to help install it said a 3.55 would be more "streetable" but in the end I don't know what the driving experience will be once I get it. So it's kind of a guess, but either will be MUCH better than 2.41.

With those tall tires, 3.42 or 3.55 is too tall for gearing. I run at 1850 rpm at 60 mph with a 25.6" tire with the 2004R locked up. I am actually going for crazy mileage and throwing it in the 70 with the Olds 260 and 2.78 gears. It will run at 1500 rpm at 60 mph with the same tires, probably will drive at 70 mph. Peak torque is at 1800 rpm and the stock cam is tiny, come on 30 mpg!

For my project 86' Regal I will be building a 350 SBC that will have 325-350 horse also with a 200R4 and very mild converter, this is going to be just a fun cruiser with a respectable amount of power so it can get out of it's own way.
For the rear I am going to probably install a new Auburn carrier (or something comparable) in the stock 7.5" and either 3.23 or 3.42 gears with a about 28" tall tire.
I am building this car to be basically the opposite of my Monte having overdrive, AC and decent gas mileage and being able to do 70+ on the highway without much effort.

I'm basically in the same boat. The idea of this build was to have a respectable cruiser that I can have some fun with. Engine is in the same HP range and I have my AC in place still although the system just leaks the refrigerant out(I've yet to truly tinker with it). I could have easily done a 383 or a big block but I wanted this to be a car the wife wouldn't be intimidated to drive or be in.

I'm thinking 3.42's or 3.55's will be the final decision.
