starting hearing a odd grinding sound, took off rear brake drum and one of ht springs comletely came off. as well as the rectangular metal piece with slits on each end. I dont know what happened. anyone know what a shop is gonna charge me to do do rear brakes?

I think it should cost some thing like 100 to 150 I have not been working on cars in a shop for a while but thats what I think. Good luck

Yeah

I had the front ones quoted at 125 so that sounds about right. ANy idea what caused the spring to just go bing and come off cuasing all the stuff to fall apart? or was it just tired out?

It could be metal fatigue, or an improper installation. I had it happen once when about 70 miles from home, and had to do a makeshift repair. Not fun, but I got it home.

FSM 25.00, shoes 20-25.00, spring kit, maybe 20.00, having the drums cut, maybe another 20. Cost of learning to do it yourself, priceless. Not being a smartass, but part of the fun of our cars is learning to work on them ourselves or having a couple of buddies over helping and enjoying the day.
