Rear package tray help needed..................

What have you guys with stereo systems done to stop the package tray from vibrating and making it sound very distorted?
Its in my 78 Lemans so its the deeper tray like the bu's have.
If i push down on the center of it all my rattles go away and its a very clean clear sound. I probly wouldnt care for now if it was an exterior rattle :|

Remove the package tray, and put down a few rolled up balls of strip caulk under it, and then put it back in and mush it down.
Problem solved.

Will this work with the half inch underlay that is under it from factory?
