I don't own an El Camino but I talk with people that put Monroe Max Air Shocks in back. Their not really for performance but if you put anything heavy in the back you can keep you ride height looking perfect!

I ditched the factory air shocks on mine and went with a good gas charged shock. Looking to be able to drive mine not autocross it, and the heaviest thing it will likely haul is stuff my wife finds at a yard sale, so i do not need too much in the handling dept. Beside it is so light in the back it wont stick anyway.

I tried several different shocks ( AC Delco air, Monroe Air, Monroe w/ spring helper). Finally settled on Bilsteins ( all 4 cormers). Great ride and handling. If I want to carry something heavy, I've also installed Firestone air bags, but I think I've used them once in two years.

Same here. I went with KYB Gas-Adjusts for a night and day difference in ride and handling from the air shocks. I installed Air Lift bags out back and normally run them with the minimum 5 psi.

If you are gonna buy air shocks, dont go with monroes- The bladder tends to baloon when you fill them to capacity with air because there is nothing to keep the bladder in shape- I.E. the bladder goes out and the car doesn't go up- Use Gabriel Hi-Jackers- They have a steel steeve around the bladders so all the airpressure is concentrated to make the car go up. I have a used set i'd sell cheap, you would probably need a new air line kit though.
